2017 IE GSO Research Symposium
Twenty-four IE graduate students entered posters and presented them to faculty, fellow students, OIEs, and Industrial Engineering Advisory Council members.
Afterward, the symposium continued in Grissom 103 with a panel discussion with four OIEs, Dr. Kathryn Stecke, Richard Penington, Ghassan Nuqul, and Cynthia Weldon. Dr. Stecke (MSIE 1977, PhD 1981) teaches in the School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. Penington (BSIE 1985, MSIE 1986) is the co-founder, President and CEO of Apexon Corporation, and also holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Nuqul (BSIE 1983) is the Chairman of Fine Hygienic Holding, one of the major investors and biggest industrial groups in the Middle East, and also holds an MBA from Purdue. Weldon (BSIE 1980) has had a thirty-three year career with IBM and is currently the President of the Weldon Foundation, a $12 million foundation invested in medical device companies and which also supports the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue.
After the panel discussion, IE GSO Academic Affairs Chair Mustafa Lokhandwala presented prizes for the top three posters and two Peer Choice awards:
1st prize – Kang-Yu Hsu
"Patient Safety Implications of Delays in Infusion Pumps Drug Limit Library Updates"
2nd prize – Tian Zhou
"Early Turn-taking Prediction for Robotic Scrub Nurses in the Operating Room with Deep Learning"
3rd prize – Loris Cannelli
"Fast Parallel Algorithms for Real-Time Dynamic MRI"
Peer Choice - Mohammad Moshref Javadi
"Using Drones to Minimize Delivery Time in Disaster Relief Operations"
Peer Choice - Ruoxing Wang
"Highly deformable hierarchical heterostructure printed liquid electrode selfassembled two-dimensional semiconductor for wearable electronics and sensors"
Congratulations, grad students!
