Purdue is contributing to the national focus on academic rigor with its honor pledge: "As a Boilermaker pursuing academic excellence, I pledge to be honest and true in all that I do. Accountable together – We are Purdue."

In spring of 2015, Purdue’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities conducted a survey on academic integrity and dishonesty. The office then worked with a group of 15 students to develop an honor pledge after researching other universities that utilize them. IE students Eren Bozbag and Josh Moore, who were seniors at the time but graduated in May 2017, participated.

"We wanted student leadership to drive the initiative," said Moore. "Having students create the wording for the honor pledge was important."

So far, the pledge will be integrated into the admissions process; Boiler Gold Rush; Summer Transition, Advising and Registration (STAR) orientation sessions; and COM 114 courses. The honor pledge also will also be part of the 40-foot-long "Honor Tracks" to be constructed between Haas Hall and the Psychological Sciences Building this summer.

The Purdue School of Industrial Engineering, the Purdue College of Engineering and Purdue University administration have fully supported the new pledge.
