Lin, an IE senior,has worked as an intern for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) for three years. He started in a different engineering major, but realized during the internship that he "wanted to talk and interact with the business side, so I got an economics minor and switched to industrial engineering".

What do you do as an intern for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE)? 
I work with the New (Hybrid IT) Stack project. It is a cloud product for cloud management. I do competitive business and market analysis for that.

What is your favorite part about working for HPE?
I have worked for HPE for three years, and I started as a technical engineer and then switched to the marketing/business side. That was a great benefit for me because I got to see both the technical aspect of working in industry and the business aspect, too.

What were you looking for when you accepted this opportunity?
I was actually a freshman so I was just looking for a job and some experience. This path has really helped me figure out what I really want to do, and I switched majors because of it. It helped me realize I did not want to do [another major] and sit at my computer for the rest of my life. I wanted to talk and interact with the business side, so I got an economics minor and switched to industrial engineering.

Do you think this internship helped you professionally?
It definitely helps having a big name on your resume. We just had Industrial Roundtable career fair, so walking around talking to people, everyone wanted to talk about that. Not only that, it helped me with time management, growing as a person, and growing professionally in industry.

Would you recommend this internship to a fellow student?
I recommended [it to] my friend last year and he interned with me this summer. He enjoyed the program itself and he worked on many things. He wrote a paper this summer too, so I am proud of him. The opportunities that Pathmaker internships bring are boundless.

What would you like to do in the future?
Because of this program I got to see both the management and technical side of an industry. From working with the product team I definitely see myself going down the management track where I work with a team to come up with innovative business and technical solutions in the future.
