Industrial Engineering PhD student Guoyang Zhou has recently won the 2023 Dieter W. Jahns Student Practitioner Award!

Guoyang Zhou, Phd Student in Industrial Engineering

Presented by the Foundation for Professional Ergonomics, this prestigious award recognizes Zhou for his work using augmented reality and 3D-projection to enhance training simulations for nursing students.

Zhou is advised by Associate Professor Denny Yu, who won the award himself in 2014. Each will receive a monetary prize and be honored at the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society meeting in Washington, D.C. on October 24, 2023.

Zhou’s project is a joint venture with the School of Nursing and Envision Center. The project, titled “Bringing Patient Mannequins to Life: 3D Projection Enhances Nursing Simulation,” involves projecting facial expressions onto virtual mannequins to improve trainees’ accuracy in decision-making with the ultimate goal of improving simulation-based training outcomes.

Congratulations to Zhou for his outstanding achievement!
